Where our prices come from

Egg prices: NECC

The National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC) publishes the price of 100 eggs every day at e2necc.com. For some markets it is NECC's suggested price; for other centres NECC only reports the prevailing market price. Every page says which one it is.

One egg = the 100-egg price ÷ 100; a dozen is 12, a tray 30 and a peti 210 eggs. History comes from NECC's monthly tables going back to 2009. Obvious typing mistakes in old records (values far from the days around them) are left out of charts and averages.

We check NECC's table every 20 minutes from 5 am to 9 pm (India time).

Cardamom prices: Spices Board

Small cardamom e-auction results and large cardamom market prices published by Spices Board India (indianspices.com). Their copyright policy allows free reproduction with the source acknowledged. The day's average is the auction averages weighted by the quantity sold.

NECC's clarification (word for word)

“The daily egg prices suggested by NECC, on its official website or through any other medium (including verbal, print and digital media) are merely suggestive and not mandatory. The suggested prices are published solely for the reference and information of the trade and industry. NECC does not by itself or through any person enforce compliance or adherence with such suggested egg prices in any manner whatsoever. If any person not authorized by NECC chooses to disseminate NECC suggested prices through any medium, such person must also include the above clarification while disseminating NECC suggested prices of eggs.”
